Moving Music: Sounds From The Rocking Chair
A Moving Furniture Records Compilation

In December 2019 we had a crowdfunding campaign to support us into the year 2020. For this we asked several of our musicians if they could contribute to this  campaign. From this the compilation Moving Music: Sounds From The Rocking Chair grew.
In total 24 musicians submitted their creativity to make a total of 16 tracks. Aside from some exclusive solo tracks there are also 10 collaborations with unique combinations of musicians. To name a few: TVO & Jos Smolders, Radboud Mens & BJ Nilsen, Matthijs Kouw & Gagi Petrovic, and many more.

And aside from the great music that came from this, also new future collaborations are to be expected. While each musician really has their own background in music the result is surprisingly consistent, while also showing the diversity Moving Furniture Records stands for. From eclectic modular compositions by Codesira1 to the minimalist ambient drones by Freiband & Orphax to the inspiring sounds by Phillipp Bückle & Cinema Perdu.

A great way to discover Moving Furniture Records and the wide range of musicians.

…It paints a fine picture of what this label is about.
Which is something that can also be said of the compilation CD just released by Moving Furniture Records. No doubt we have reviewed pretty much all of the releases from what I consider the most important Dutch label for experimental music, so perhaps you’d expect this compilation receiving a special place in Vital Weekly. No favouritism, please. This compilation is part of a crowdfunding campaign that just ended and had lots of goodies, one of them is this compilation. Luckily this is not your standard ‘here’s an artist and his song’, but in ten of the sixteen pieces, artists from the label work together. Radboud Mens meets BJ Nilsen (via e-mail); Gareth Davis & Machinefabriek live in concert in the sunny city of Nijmegen. That kind of thing. Unusual combinations (Haarvöl & Jos Smolders; Martijn Comes & Rene Aquarius) and some as expected (Orphax & Freiband, with a short remake of a CDR that was part of the crowdfunding in an edition of 1 copy). Five musicians choose to do something solo (Bas van Huizen (two pieces by him; not sure why), Fani Konstantinidou, D’Incise, Codespira1 and Distorted Nude). As someone who is well versed in the releases of this label, I can vouch for the fact that this compilation is a very fine example of what this label has to offer. Fine drones, ambient, modular synthesizers, acoustic drones, modern classical and everything in between as a cross-over between that.
Plus all of these tracks you can’t find on a regular disc by the label. (FdW)
