TVO (UK)

TVO aka Ruaridh Law is one of the label heads of Broken20, an experimental label from Scotland which releases music with an aesthetic of broken, degraded, hiss-laden reduction, often on hand-made formats. His interests are in sound art, the occult, sub bass, and all the points at which they intersect. Lauded by The Wire as a practitioner of “meticulously textured, atypical techno” and by The Quietus as “one of the UK’s most unfairly overlooked electronic artists”, his previous releases have been for the likes of Stuff, Moving Furniture, Highpoint Lowlife, Broken20 and tape offshoot Broken60 as well as remixes for the likes of Uncharted Audio and Perc Trax. His work has dovetailed between cerebral club excursions on the one hand and sound-art pieces on the other – most recently using disparate sources such as turntables, light-sensing webcams and the human voice to generate unsettling abstract works.

This year has already seen the release of a long-form EP of installation pieces, with further outings still to come this year including an album of treated found piano works, a new album on DVD and digital based around an obscure William Burroughs short story, and a 12″ EP for London club-focussed label Don’t Be Afraid.

Zeno van den Broek (NL)

The work of Zeno van den Broek revolves around space, spatiality and time, in which he uses both the acoustic and the visual to influence space and spatial awareness, both in a tactile and mental way. Originally trained as an architect Zeno creates work which investigates and is strongly related to the spaces and locations it is placed or created in. He uses different ways of expression such as audiovisual performances, compositions, installations and paintings to be able to comprehend and express the richness and complexity of spatiality.
During his live A/V-performances Zeno works with pure sound sources such as sine waves and white noise, creating site-specific patterns of interference and fully utilizing the acoustics of the space. The sound and projections merge with the existing architecture of the venue, creating new fluid spaces in which the position of the auditor alters his or her experience, intensifying spatial perception.

Zeno van den Broek has presented work at various venues and festivals such as Steim, Fiber Festival and State-X New Forms. He has been commissioned work by the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Gaudeamus Foundation and Oude Kerk Amsterdam.
