Ubeboet – Archival reviewed by Mapsadaisical

Over at Mapsadaisical they have published a lovely review for Ubeboet – Archival.
Go check it out:

Christ, it is hot. I can’t remember a summer as ceaselessly and oppressively warm as this one. Well, not since I moved out of that bungalow on the planet Venus. I really don’t know what I was thinking of there. All the radiation from the sun meant that 3G reception was a bit patchy too. It was cheap, I suppose. Well, at least compared to the London property market; maybe if I’d been moving from Grimsby or somewhere it would have seemed a bit less affordable. At the moment I can barely be bothered to lift my fingers to the keys to tell you how good this new album by Ubeboet is. I can’t believe I actually want it to rain, a proper hard, sharp rain shower to cleave this solid wall of heat…

A Vibrant Struggle – Between the Woods and Frozen Lake reviewed in Foxy Digitalis.

Between The Woods and Frozen Lake by A Vibrant Struggle got reviewed at Foxy Digitalis:

Here we have “Between the Woods and Frozen Lake,” the tenth(!) release from A Vibrant Struggle’s “Molten Snow Tapes” sessions, once again composed from the fruits of piles of tapes that were collected over the course of a single weekend in an abandoned ski resort back in September of 2007. Foxy Digitalis reviewed an earlier installment from the Norwegian trio on the Small Doses label called “Whispering Bones,” in which Ryan Emmett allowed his imagination to take hold with visions of an old man in a knit sweater, brutally hunting reindeer for survival with ice picks in the freezing cold. If that old man was cognizant of his surroundings throughout “Whispering Bones,” perhaps “Between the Woods and Frozen Lake” finds that same burly white-bearded fellow holed up in his cabin several days later, fat (from reindeer), subdued and drunkenly confused, maybe even letting his guard down a little…..

4 AM reviewed in Vital Weekly

Frans de Waard from Vital Weekly wrote a nice review for 4 AM by Small Things On Sundays:

SMALL THINGS ON SUNDAYS – 4AM (CDR by Moving Furniture Records)
One Henrik Bagner and one Claus Poulsen are behind Small Things On Sundays. They hail from Copenhagen, Denmark and create their music using guitar and vinyl. As a band they exist since 2005, “starting with free improvisations with electronic treatments of vinyl records in any tempo”, with a background for both of them in rock bands. Their ’4AM’ release was recorded during various sessions using very slow speed on the turntable and a guitar played with a bow. Actually I must admit I didn’t realize this until I looked the information up on the label’s website. For all I knew until then it might have also been processed field recordings. I am not sure if the recordings were later on edited in one form or another, I assume so. The music is best described as very dark, very ambient and much drones. Its quite a fine release I thought. Nothing spectacular in the the world of drone music, which is hardly surprise, but its played with some great imagination. Maybe seven pieces/sixty two
minutes is a bit long I thought – in that respect the album lacked a bit of variation. Say four tracks/forty minutes would have made the same statement and most likely a better release. Still, this is a nice release for anyone who loves labels like Moving Furniture or Mystery Sea. (FdW)

Foxy Digitalis Label Spotlight

Sometime ago Brad Rose from Foxy Digitalis / Digitalis Industries asked if he could do an interview / questionnaire about Moving Furniture Records with me and of course I was really happy to do so.

This week the Label Spotlight got posted on the Foxy Digitalis website.

Label spotlight: Moving Furniture Records
I admit that the way I discovered Moving Furniture Records probably makes me a little biased, but what the hell, right? Label boss Sietse Van Erve has been a longtime customer and confidant of Digitalis, so when we found out he was starting a label we had pretty high hopes. I mean, he was a fan of what we were putting out and obviously I think Digitalis has perfect taste, so… The good news is that Sietse definitely lived up to those expectations. Moving Furniture is off to a great start with loads of soaring drones and subterranean tones from the likes of Freiband and Erstlaub. Based on what he has to say here, I’d say 2010 is going to be a banner year for the label. Scope it.
